Personality & Traits

General Overview Glori has a macabre sense of humor that doesn't always juxtapose well with her position. Her understanding of medicine is very academic, as her life experience differs greatly from that of many of her crew mates. While she does strive toward a hospitable bedside manner, it's a long way from being proper. The concept of fear response and the pain-pleasure connection eternally fascinate her, particularly when others are unaware of them. Nonetheless, she is a keen mind when it comes to pathology and diagnoses, which reinforces her macabre view of the universe.
Ambitions As a spoiled rich girl from a backwater planet which, until recently, served as a horror story passed between the shipping lanes, Glori wants to see the galaxy for herself before Death calls her to its cold, bittersweet embrace.
Hobbies & Interests Glori is an artist through and through. Not everybody would agree with her choice of media or that any of it constituted art. Regardless, Glori is able to find stark beauty in the most sickly horror, so why not paint it?

Personal History Glori is a Corvan from Corvus Prime. The harried history of her planet has been the subject of scholarly debate and fuel for nightmares for nearly two centuries, and the Hawthorn family rose early on from the ash heap of Theta-Corvus III (first called New Romania, then Dhampir, then finally Corvus Prime) into one of the most prominent Corvan families. All personal agency notwithstanding, Glori is a product of her environment. That meant when Corvus Prime was formally inducted into the United Federation of Planets and her father forbade her from joining Starfleet, Glori did not think twice.

Her entrance exam to the Academy was delayed due to the additional assessments she had to endure, both biological and psychological. Once she charmed her way through admissions, Glori saw it only natural to follow the Medical track, seeing as how her monthly dialysis treatment meant she should never be far from a Sickbay or Infirmary.

The four years at the Academy came and went without much incident. Glori drew much attention, but made few lasting friends. She struggled to find her place. A few months before graduation, she determined to be herself as much as Corvanly possible, and to hell with the rest.

While it would be unfair to say that Glori has been ostracized by her crew mates, it's a testament to her research skills that she has advanced at all. Her first assignment after graduation kept her on Earth as an assistant researcher for Starfleet Medical. It proved to be a beneficial experience that gained her a reputation for excellence which would precede her.

Wanderlust returned to her, though, and she yearned to visit the stars she had always admired. Her first starship posting did not last long, as it was a small crew on a Wallace class. Her glib remarks and tasteless humor undermined her position with the crew. The captain transferred her as quickly as possible, dumping her in a remote outpost where she served for over a year.

Eventually there was a newly commissioned Intrepid class ship, a research vessel christened the USS Wallachia, whose CMO offered to give Glori a chance. Under that doctor's tutelage, Glori thrived, eventually becoming her department assistant and earning a promotion.

When Starfleet began commissioning Pathfinder class starships, Glori knew that was where she would find her destiny. The USS Pioneer, second of its class, just happened to need a doctor.

Brief History of Corvus Prime:
First colonized in 2203, Theta-Corvus III was named Romania after the Romaine dynasty of Mars which organized the expedition. With a few short years, the planet's moon was knocked off orbit and plummeted into the surface, creating an extinction-level cataclysm. Colonists who took refuge in hastily constructed underground bunkers arose to an eternal frozen night. In time industrial surveyors returned and assisted with terraforming efforts to little avail. The climate was made more temperate through altering the atmospheric mixture, but with little to no sunlight the planet was barely more than a darkened Class K except at the equator.
Its rich natural resources did not stymie prospectors, though, which led to an industrial boom and a unique culture of rugged labor and lavish luxury. In time, the surviving Romanians and the newcomer working class called Corvans (so named after the sector of space in an attempt to preserve the native colonial culture).
Class warfare erupted when it was discovered that the wealthier Romanians were halting terraforming efforts to the suffering and frequent death of Corvan workers. Tensions peaked when environmental contaminants triggered an epidemic of Congenital Erythropoietic Porphyria that soon mutated into a unique brand of madness-inducing agony. Emergency first responders referred to the unique form of CEP as "Corvan Hemophagia," and the name stuck in future medical journals.
Starfleet Medical was unable to treat the increasingly feral population, and was forced to place a quarantine on the planet. It was believed to be a lost colony for over 50 years, garnering the nickname "Dhampir" among sensationalist members of the press, until Pathos BioMed (a wholly owned subsidiary of Ingram Nanoscale Solutions) announced the creation of NOS-4-A2, a synthetic blood that proved successful in treating the symptoms of Corvan Hemophagia while having only a few minor cosmetic side effects.
